Secondary mathematics teachers learning to do and teach mathematical modeling: a trajectory

چکیده

This study explores secondary mathematics teachers’ perceptions of the experiences that contributed to their capacities understand mathematical modeling and facilitate students’ experiences. The retrospective research methods transformative learning theory frame used in honor teachers as adult learners value perspectives while providing a way complexity model teach modeling. Data analysis identified triggers knowledge dilemmas challenged prompted teacher well opportunities resolve through rational discourse critical reflection. Patterns teacher-identified meaningful reveal trajectory with strands address aspects doing teaching modeling: mathematics, social learning, real-world contexts, student thinking, curriculum. Results this provide holistic view do modeling, complementing studies designed professional interventions out necessity target specific parts process. results both support challenge common education content practices. illustrates usefulness lifelong learners.
